Sinar Pagi Nasi Padang started out as a makeshift stall in Geylang Serai in the 1960s by Haji Nasir Kiram who originally migrated to Singapore from Bukit Tinggi, West Sumatra. The stall eventually moved to the Geylang Serai Market. Sinar Pagi Nasi Padang stays true to its roots. After the old Geylang Serai Market was demolished and rebuilt, Sinar Pagi Nasi Padang stayed on and is now located on the second floor of the much improved and modern Geylang Serai Market.

In 2000, Sinar Pagi Nasi Padang opened another site within the Central Business District. Located at 13, Circular Road, the main bulk of its customers are the hardworking folks from the surrounding offices and shops. The outlet at Circular Road spans 3 floors and it is possible to make reservations for small or large parties of diners.

Currently, Sinar Pagi Nasi Padang operates from these two outlets. Both offer the same quality food – Nasi Padang in the Kapau style.
